Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about working with us? We have answers.

Never been to therapy and not sure what to expect?

Here are some of the most common things people ask before getting started… (And no, you don’t have to lie on a couch – unless you want to.)

If you’re thinking about therapy, that’s usually a sign something inside you is ready for support.

You don’t have to know exactly what you need though,  that’s what we’ll figure out together.

Maybe you’re feeling stuck. Maybe you’re overwhelmed. Or maybe you’re just tired of carrying it all on your own. You don’t need to be at rock bottom to give therapy a try.

Whatever you’re struggling to make sense of, therapy gives you space to untangle it – one step at a time.

Think of this as your personal matchmaking session.

Before you get started with counseling, you’ll have an intake session with Dr. Steven Fried, our Executive Clinical Director. With over 30 years of experience (yes, he’s seen it all), he’s become really good at figuring out which therapist will be the best fit for you. This first step helps us get your therapy journey started on the right foot, with the right person walking beside you.

Short answer? Pretty much anything.

We work with people facing all kinds of challenges – anxiety, depression, grief, breakups, burnout, big life changes, career confusion, family drama, identity questions and the general “what am I doing with my life” spiral.

Whether it’s something specific or you’re not even sure how to name what’s going on, that’s okay. Therapy gives you space to sort through it.

We work with both individuals and couples, and we’ll help you figure out which approach makes the most sense for you.

It’s totally okay and this actually happens more often than people think.

Therapy is all about feeling safe and understood, and sometimes that means trying a different fit. If something feels off or you’re not connecting, just let us know. We’ll take care of it and get you matched with someone who’s a better fit.

Absolutely, yes!

No matter how you identify or express yourself, you deserve therapy that feels safe, respectful and affirming. Many of our therapists have experience supporting LGBTQIA+ clients so whether you want to explore your identity, unpack trauma or just have a space where you can show up fully as yourself, we’ve got you.

Yes, and that’s intentional.

All our sessions are all held online. That means no commute, no awkward waiting rooms and way more flexibility to fit therapy into your real life. You can connect with your therapist on your lunch break or from your couch in sweats because our goal is to make mental health care as convenient and comfortable as possible.

We use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform for all sessions. That means everything you share is encrypted, confidential and legally protected.

We work with adults 18 and up. Whether you’re just figuring things out in your twenties or navigating life’s curveballs later on, you’re welcome here.

Yes.

We believe cost shouldn’t be the reason you can’t access therapy. If finances are a concern, let us know and we will work out a rate based on your situation, so you can get the support you need.

Life happens – we get it. We just ask that you give us at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. That way, your therapist can offer the spot to someone else who needs it.

That said, we know some things you just can’t plan for. If something unexpected comes up, talk to your therapist about your situation as they have the discretion to waive the fee on a case-by-case basis.
