Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about working with us? We have answers.

Millions of individuals are in therapy and many clinical studies outline the benefits of speaking to a licensed mental health professional. While we wish this was as simple as a yes or no answer, the truth is that that’s up to you. If you’re on the fence, we encourage you to reach out—our experts can help you determine if therapy is the right choice for you and your individual needs.

Dr. Steven Fried is our Executive Clinical Director and has been providing therapy and supervising clinicians for more than 30 years. Through his extensive experience, he’s developed a strong knowledge and understanding of what kind of practitioner a client will likely work best with. By meeting with Dr. Fried during your intake session, New Pathways will be able to match you with the right therapist for your concerns and individual needs, allowing you to start your journey on the right foot.

Our therapists are equipped to handle a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, grief, work-related issues, life transitions, loneliness, relationships, and much more. We conduct therapy for both individuals and couples, and we’d be happy to help you determine which approach is right for you.

Therapy is deeply personal and requires you to be vulnerable. If your therapist isn’t the right fit for you, don’t panic! That happens sometimes, and we’d be happy to help you find a different therapist that fits your needs and preferences better. All you need to do is communicate how you’re feeling with us and we’ll help without judgment.

Absolutely! No matter your expression or identity, we’re happy to match you with a therapist who can provide compassionate care. Many of our therapists have experience working with LGBTQIA+ clients and would be able to provide you with individualized counseling within a trauma-informed framework, including identity-affirming care.

Yes—all of our therapy sessions are conducted remotely, using a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. That means you can get counseling from anywhere, and that your therapist can be more flexible with accommodating your schedule.

All clients ages 18 or older are welcome here.

We’re proud to offer sliding scale rates to our clients who may need financial assistance. If you’re looking to get therapy but aren’t sure about finances, please give us a call so that we can better understand your situation and work out a rate for you to get the mental health care you deserve.

We ask that clients give us cancellation notice at least 24 hours in advance of an appointment to avoid a cancellation fee. However, we understand that life is unpredictable. So we allow clinicians to waive that fee on a case-by-case basis. If you have extenuating circumstances that may lead you to cancel last minute, please discuss that with your provider so they can better understand your situation.
